A field trip first

Yesterday I went with Becky on her field trip. Growing up in Utah I remember taking some exciting field trips, maybe to a park or the zoo, but they weren't quite like Becky's field trip yesterday. We went whale watching! We left from Oceanside Harbor and spent two hours on the ocean.

The coolest part was when we were leaving the harbor there were two dolphins that swam to the side of the boat for probably at least 5 minutes. Bex and I were on the side of the boat, so the dolphins were right below us. Here's a really short video I took of one of the dolphins jumping:

We then spent almost an hour just riding the waves. I got feeling a little off, so sat down for a while. A few of the kids lost their breakfasts, but Bex did fine. We finally saw a huge pod of dolphins. They were all around the boat, and it was very exciting! I still have a lousy camera, but believe me, it was amazing!

Unfortunately we didn't see any whales, but we were lucky to see the dolphins. It was quite cold on the boat, and we spent a lot of time huddled against the wind, so I didn't realize my face was getting fried! I now look like a lobster, with white raccoon eyes from my sunglasses. Lovely! Oh well, it was worth it. I think I'll be going on more field trips from now on.

A great visit with Grandma Becky

Grandma Becky has been here for a week, and all of us can't believe it's been that long already. The days fly by. We have had a wonderful time going to the beach, playing games, doing puzzles, visiting, and enjoying one another's company. Here are some of my favorite pictures from her trip so far.

Becky had her first orchestra concert this week. It was so fun to see her perform with so many other 4th graders.

Kaleb took this video since he could stand in the front and not be in anyone's way. He did a great job; he just didn't know how to turn it off when he was done. Becky was a little nervous, but she did such a good job.

A busy, full life

Here is one of the reasons I haven't updated my blog lately:



Last week I had this great idea to crochet a baby blanket. I was going to a baby shower on Saturday for a lady in my ward who was having a little boy. I found a free pattern online with a hooded bear baby blanket that was super cute and started working. The problem was, this was Wednesday, and the baby shower was Saturday. I haven't crocheted in a very long time, so it took me a while to get back in rhythm. I worked on it for hours, and still didn't have it done in time for the shower on Saturday. I took the bear hood pieces and the unfinished blanket to the shower to show her, then kept working on it. On Sunday it was announced that she had gone into labor Saturday night and given birth to a baby girl on Sunday morning! I was very glad that I hadn't finished the blanket, so I could switch from a bear to a flower. I finished it, and I love how it turned out. I think I'll just continually be working on crocheting baby blankets, so I'll be ready for the next baby shower, which I think is next month.

Also, I have been busy teaching preschool this week. We are learning about teeth, and I love these snacks we made.

Look yummy, huh? Apples, peanut butter and miniature marshmallows=lips, gums and teeth. What more could you want?
